AC Power Adapters
- Do I Really Need Them?
By now you have decided where you want to go and if you have read
my ac adapter article you know whether or not you need to bring along
some ac power adapters. Unfortunately, like many things in life, there
are no exact rules governing travel adapters.
The Power
Converter - Sometimes it's Just Not Enough!
Just because you have packed your handy power converter
don’t get too confident that all your electrical problems are
solved. Electronic appliances (CD players, stereos, VCRs) require a
transformer instead of a voltage converter. Single Volt products with
electronic circuitry need a specific sine wave to operate. An AC transformer
will maintain the quality of the sine wave where as an AC power converter
won’t, and therefore damage the electronic circuitry. Fortunately
many dual voltage converters include a built in transformer.
Voltage Converters
- Don't Fry Your Appliances!
Most of North and South America, the Caribbean and Japan
use 110 volts at 60Hz while most European counties use 220 volts at
50Hz. This means you may need to use voltage converters to use many
of your electrical appliances. Plugging a 110 volt electrical product
into a 220 volt socket without a voltage converter will damage or destroy
the appliance.

A Room

Luggage Size - Know The Rules!

carry on luggage size? It’s important to know what’s allowed
and what isn’t. Obviously verify with your airline, but I’ll

What Is an Holistic
Retreat? - Guidelines on finding the right one for you
You see the description, Holistic Retreat, more and more these
days. You know that the term holistic when applied to complementary
therapies means - that the whole person, mind, body and spirit, is targeted.
But what exactly does this mean when it is describing a retreat?
How To
Tell If It's A Swell Hotel / Motel
Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of traveling in connection with
my writing. The past three weekends alone I’ve driven to Sylva,
North Carolina, Louisville, Kentucky, and Destin, Florida. Overall,
I’m holding up reasonably well, except for the fact that my rear
end is starting to closely resemble the upholstery pattern of my car
seats. I’ve also learned that you don’t want to drink a
twenty-four ounce Diet Mountain Dew in a plastic bottle just before
you drive up to Atlanta. Doing that can give the term, “the Foggy
Mountain Two Step,” a whole new meaning.
Personal
Protection When Traveling - It's a Must!
One Christmas when I was in high school, I received what
I thought at the time was an odd gift – a personal safety alarm.
I thanked my parents, but wondered why they thought I needed personal
protection. As it turns out I never used the alarm but I sure FELT safer
when I was walking home in the dark.

your family reunion, it’s going to be a special time. When we
think of trips we’ve taken, we tend to remember them best with

as your memories of them.
Six Good Reasons
To Take A Family Vacation
When I was young, family vacations with my parents consisted of driving
for a week from place to place in a hot stifling car. My parents had
the knack of picking the hottest week of the summer to do so. In spite
of that, we still had fun, managed to find interesting sites to explore
and those are the memories that I still have.

Travel Light: The
How And Why
I learned how to travel light from lightweight
backpacking, then found it was just as useful to keep it light on trips
overseas or driving across the country. The last time my wife and I
went to Ecuador, I had 10 pounds of luggage, all in one carry-on bag,
and Ana had just 8 pounds in her carry-on bag. This wasn't a short trip.
We spent six weeks in Ecuador, at times on glacier-covered mountains,
and at other times lounging on Pacific coast beaches.
Staying Mosquito
Free While Traveling
The last thing that any traveler needs is to be plagued by mosquitoes
throughout their journey. Just as there are sure-fire ways to reduce
the incidence of these pests in the home environment, definite steps
can be taken to stave them off when you’re away from the home
front. This is especially important in a society that’s been afflicted
by the variety of diseases that are commonly carried among the mosquito
population.
